The series was researched and developed in 1999 and first aired in 2000 to great acclaim. The drama deals with serious health and development topics such as;
Soul Buddyz was also developed together with three SABC regional radio stations - Motsweding, Umhlobo Wenene and Thobela FM, at a time when there was little to no content created for children on radio.
The series is still hailed for having been impactful in addressing some of youth’s pressing issues by providing comprehensive sexuality education for the first time on South African screens and airwaves.
