Safetipin is a social enterprise based in Delhi, India. The organisation has developed cutting-edge technology designed to make cities and communities safer for women.
In 2019 SCI implemented the Safetipin project in eThekwini in partnership with the eThekwini municipality. Safetipin works to empower women through identifying factors causing fear in cities and collecting the data in an online platform. SCI also sent cars out at night, equipped with cameras to document the safety parameters in different areas, including street lighting.
Simultaneously, the SCI collaborated with two teams of young women in KwaMashu and KwaNdengezi who conducted Safetipin audits in their local communities with a particular focus on taxi ranks. We trained these young women to advocate effectively and they will be engaging directly with their local civic representatives to ensure their recommendations are taken up.
