The Multi-Year Grant is intended to be a financial contribution to Soul City Institute as one of the 4 intermediaries, for the sole purpose of enabling the Fund to reach CBOs that are not eligible to apply directly to the Fund. SCI as an intermediary provides sub grants and capacity development support to 20 community-based organisations in KwaZulu-Natal and five community-based organisations in North West. The Fund is a part of a national response to gender-based violence and femicide ("GBVF") in South Africa. The Fund has been established as a first step in a holistic approach that aims to coordinate financial and non-financial resources to support relevant programmes and campaigns that will raise awareness, lead to mass action, and result in behavioural change.

The Sub grantees (appointed CBOs) have the primary responsibility of monitoring and collecting data related to interventions that are implemented by them in line with pillar 2 of the National Strategic Plan ("NSP") while SCI has the responsibility of ensuring that Sub grantees have the necessary capacity and tools, and equally understand what data needs to be collected, when and how. SCI is also responsible for data verification based on the CBOs reports.
