Rise Clubs activities weekend of 27 - 28 February: KwaZulu Natal

Last weekend we saw Rise Clubs across the country engaged in District meetings and other activities.

Ugu District

The event was held at Gamalakhe Hall on the 27th of February 2016. This meeting was aimed at looking back on what the clubs has achieved since being launched in December 3 2014.

32 active clubs from Umdoni, Hibiscus and Umzumbe Local Municipalities were present and they were also given a chance to voice out the challenges they have faced throughout their journey as well as share success stories.

Field Workers who were once chairpersons also got to share the impact that Rise has made in their lives and clubs also got to participate in Group work activities that will help equip them to make a six month plan in order to keep their objectives alive and also be able to stick to the Rise Curriculum

Guest speakers also got to motivate and share services rendered in their departments and extended their hands to Rise clubs in order to benefit from these clubs.

  1. Dudu Ngcobo from UGu District Municipality-Gender office was the main speaker
  2. Nozipho from the Department of Sport and Recreation also extended the department’s hand to the clubs and offered motivation on the sustainance and importance of including healthy and active activities in their clubs.

Thabiso Motibedi one of Soul City's Provincial Coordinators facilitated the group work activities.

Ethekwini

The District Meeting was held on the 28th of February 2016 at Pinetown Civic Centre Hall. It was aimed at recapping on the club’s activities and projects since the launch in March 2015 and also engage with them in paving a way forward by equipping the clubs with knowledge to plan ahead.

Clubs also got a chance to share their success stories and challenges. Field Workers also got an opportunity to share their experiences and challenges since they became Field Workers.

Miss Babalwa Ndaba from the District Municipality’s Gender office was very instrumental from the beginning right to the end of the planning and execution of the event and she was also one of the speakers. Ms. Nzuza was the Motivational Speaker who left the girls begging for more.

The Soul City Provincial Manager Siziwe Khanyile conducted the welcoming of the guests and purpose of the meeting and overall Rise program objectives. The two Provincial Coordinators Lungi Lwandle and Msozi Mthembu helped with the coordination of activities, i.e. Lungi facilitated the challenges, success and 6 month plans and Msozi acted as the Program Director. The rest of the team was ably supported by visiting Coordinator Thabiso Mathibedi who facilitated the group work activities
