The congress was hosted by the Department of Education - HIV/AIDS & Life Skills Unit in partnership with Soul City Institute. The purpose of the event is to honour, motivate and reward the top performing Soul Buddyz Clubs in the province. 50 clubs were invited from the Mpumalanga province and each club was represented by 2 Buddyz and 1 Facilitator.
During the congress the Buddyz attended two skills building sessions facilitated by GRIP and SANCA plus they had fun games with loveLife team. The facilitators had a feedback & update session with Tembi Tyuku (Mpumalanga Provincial Manager - Youth Programmes) and Pulane Baloyi (Senior Manager - Youth Programmes); and they also went through a session on the new Soul Buddyz reporting App. The App Session was ably facilitated by Thabiso Mathibedi (Soul City Northern Cape Coordinator).
On the Wednesday evening (7th October), the proceedings were concluded with a gala dinner whereby the DoE showered the top clubs with rewards ranging from certificates to digital cameras to laptops. The gala dinner was co-facilitated by the Buddyz and the DoE officials. It was a lovely night of glitz and glam coupled with great success stories from the clubs.
