Aim of district meetings:
- To drive engagements between young women, district municipalities, civil society organisations, media and other key stakeholders at district level with the ultimate goal of identifying collaborations and opportunities that can be exploited and utilised in overcoming challenges affecting young women.
- To create a platform to input on the “integrated development plan” that aims to co-ordinate the work of local and other spheres of government in a coherent plan to improve the quality of life for all the people (particularly young women) living in the district.
Thabiso Mathibedi from the SC Northern Cape Provincial Office acted as Programme Manager for the day.
The three stakeholder that did attend the meeting were:
- Ms Williams (RoC)
- Ms Mokwena (DoE)
- Mr Nqai community leader)
The overall message to the Rise clubs from the above mentioned stakeholders were: Be a light in the dark for others to follow, a rock for those amongst you in stormy conditions, be proud of who and what you are and plant seeds of positive change wherever you go.
Despite the fact that the Local Municipality were unable to send a representative to attend the meeting and discuss possible integrated actions and working methods, the 235 clubs members who attended the meeting were able to identify social issues in their area and discuss action plans accordingly. Due to time limitations clubs still needs to narrow down their club activities during their next club meeting.
Some of the comments received from Rise members that attended the district meeting were:
Thank you Soul City. I have learned many things that I didn’t realize I need to know. I really enjoyed it a lot” (Queens RYWC, Mabeoana School)
”We really enjoyed our day. It was really nice to share ideas with other Rise Clubs and meet other young women. Thanks a lot for the day”.(Magnificent RYWC, Tsoseletso High)
